Born in Puerto Rico to an ultra-religious mother and a domineering father is not easy, especially when it’s likely you are a big Queen. There are not enough novenas to pray, or candles to be lit. In this situation only a miracle will do, or better yet… a holy intervention. Thank God for Madonna. Recommended for: High School, Colleges, teenagers, adults, theatre community, LGBTQ community, ethnic community (Latino).
"The truth is religion was as much part of me as it was in this spunky Italian girl’s life. I knew that to be true. I could see into her…through the mascara, the lipstick, the mysterious mole, the rubber bracelets, and the attitude…she was just like me: a girl just trying to get the hell out of Pontiac, Michigan.
Oh, how I wished that a Venetian gondola would glide up to my parents home in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and just whisk me away…somewhere…anywhere. Alas…it didn’t…so all I had were my records…my forty-fives, my LP’s…and in the summer of 1990, I had my 12inch Vogue Maxi-Single…and well…I was whisked away…
The record sleeve…black lace lingerie, arching her back gently…looking straight up to the heavens in religious ecstasy…my very own cardboard Icon. The record had about 5 different mixes of the song…each one unique, fabulous, and warped because I had played it so much…"
This often hilarious, and sometimes quite moving one man show, will inspire, empower, and entertain those who are questioning...and those who have ZERO doubt.
